Beaches and Swimming
Villa Hestia’s pool is the perfect place to spend the day, but if you’re in the mood for sun, sea and sand, there are plenty of beautiful beaches to explore within easy walking or driving distance. Here are a few of our favourite beaches in Zola, Kefalonia:
Vouti Beach
A little gem of a beach, just a few minutes up the road from Villa Hestia. Crystal clear water in a quiet cove, set against a stunning mountain backdrop, and with a laid-back little beach bar - what more could you ask for?!
Vouti Beach is one of the island’s most famous, just a 10-minute walk or 5-minute drive from the villa. It’s downhill all the way (although it’s uphill coming back, so pack light!) and you’ll be glad you made the effort to stroll down the path when you catch the first glimpse of this peaceful cove. Expect turquoise water teaming with fish, and a spectacular mountain backdrop. Head for the little beach taverna where you can watch the kids splash about while enjoying a cold beer or cocktail, and then pull up a sun lounger and unwind with a good book for the rest of the day.
Agia Kiriaki Beach
Agia Kiriaki beach is just along the track from Zola harbour and is a truly relaxing place to spend the day. Surrounded by mountains, the long crescent-shaped beach is lapped by gentle waves that entice you into the water!
There are sunbeds and a beach taverna, but Agia Kiriaki never feels overcrowded and has a very peaceful atmosphere.
It’s a 5-minute drive to this long stretch of crescent-shaped sand, or an easy 20-minute stroll. It’s the perfect place to relax and listen to the sound of the waves. It’s a little larger than Vouti, with sunbeds and a beach taverna, but the atmosphere is peaceful and it’s never too busy.

Further afield
If you’re feeling adventurous, why not hire a motorboat from Zola harbour and take off to your own, unspoilt beach paradise? Fteri and Amidi beaches are best reached by boat and are surrounded by beautiful scenery. They’re well off the usual tourist trail, so don’t expect sunbeds or facilities. Our top tip: pack a picnic and plenty of water. On the plus side, they’re more tranquil than the beaches close to the villa and the ideal choice for a little rest and relaxation.
The motorboats at Zola harbour can also be hired for a fun day out swimming, diving, snorkelling, or fishing. Swim in the turquoise waters or discover remote beaches where you may even be lucky enough to spot native loggerhead turtles. If all that sounds too adventurous, simply sit back and take in the stunning scenery.
